FurCalc exists to help pet owners, breeders and livestock keepers make confident, informed decisions — with calculators rooted in peer-reviewed veterinary science and authoritative guidelines.

Our mission

Pet care decisions are high-stakes. Whether you're timing a whelping, estimating daily calories, or checking chocolate toxicity at 11 PM, you need a source that's accurate, transparent about its assumptions, and fast. FurCalc is built for that moment.

How we build calculators

1. Research first. We identify the best-supported formula(s) for each calculation and document our sources inline. Where multiple methods exist (e.g. dog age), we show them side-by-side rather than cherry-pick.
2. Cite everything. Every formula links to the primary source — AKC, AAHA, AAFCO, NRC, Merck Veterinary Manual, university extension publications, or peer-reviewed journals.
3. Vet review. Tools with health impact (nutrition, toxicity, dosing) are reviewed by a licensed veterinarian before publish, and reviewed at least annually after that.
4. Disclose limits. No calculator replaces hands-on veterinary judgement. Our calculators are informational estimates; we say so clearly.

Editorial independence

Calculators and content are not influenced by affiliate partners. Where we link to a product (e.g. recommended aquarium substrate), it is clearly marked and does not change the output of the tool.
