Editorial Policy
FurCalc treats every calculator as a reference source, not an opinion piece. This policy describes how we research, review, and maintain content.
1. Research and sourcing
Every formula we publish is traceable to a primary source. Preferred sources, in order of priority:
- Peer-reviewed veterinary journals indexed in PubMed.
- Guidelines from professional bodies β AAHA, AAFP, AVMA, AKC, AAFCO, NRC, WSAVA.
- University extension publications (e.g. Cornell, Texas A&M, Rutgers).
- Merck Veterinary Manual and similarly authoritative references.
2. Veterinary review
Calculators that can affect animal health β dosing, toxicity, nutrition, reproduction β are reviewed by a licensed veterinarian (DVM) before publishing. The reviewer's name, credentials, and review date are displayed on the page and embedded in the structured data.
3. Updates and corrections
We audit every tool at least annually, and sooner if guidelines change. When we correct a calculation or content, we update the "Last reviewed" date and note the change at the bottom of the page. Readers can report errors by email (see Contact).
4. Affiliate disclosure
FurCalc may earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through product links (Amazon Associates and similar programs). Affiliate links never influence the formulas or recommendations in our calculators. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
5. Transparency
- No hidden accounts, paywalls, or required signups.
- No user data is transmitted from calculators to our servers.
- All schema markup on calculator pages matches the visible content.
