About

Exotic animal veterinarian specializing in reptile, avian, small mammal, and zoo medicine. Active member of ARAV (Association of Reptile & Amphibian Veterinarians), AAV (Association of Avian Veterinarians), and AEMV (Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians).

At FurCalc, I review the reptile, bird, rabbit, ferret, and small-pet calculators. My focus: catching species-specific details that generalist care often misses β€” UVB distance math, humidity ranges, species-appropriate calcium-to-phosphorus ratios, and specialty-vet referral triggers.

Before review work, I spent 7 years at Seattle Exotic Animal Hospital treating bearded dragons, ball pythons, parrots, chinchillas, sugar gliders, and zoological-collection patients. I completed my BVM&S at the Royal Veterinary College, London (2014), followed by a two-year exotic and wildlife residency.

My editorial bar: if a calculator output would differ between a generalist DVM and an ARAV-certified exotic vet, the ARAV answer wins.

Review exotic species calculators (reptile, avian, rabbit, ferret, small mammals) for species-specific accuracy. Verify UVB, humidity, and temperature recommendations against ARAV and Arcadia Reptile research. Audit exotic nutrition (calcium, gut-loading, species-specific ratios) against AEMV guidelines. Flag cross-species recommendations that don't translate safely.
