Our editorial standards

  • Primary sources only. Every number on a FurCalc calculator traces back to a peer-reviewed study, a veterinary guideline (AAHA, AAFP, AVMA, WSAVA), the Merck Veterinary Manual, NRC Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats (2006), or ASPCA Poison Control data.
  • Medical review before publication. YMYL calculators (drug doses, toxicity thresholds, insulin, CPR, pregnancy) must be signed off by a licensed DVM on this board before going live.
  • Annual re-review. Every calculator is re-reviewed within 12 months. Review dates and reviewers are credited on each page.
  • Corrections policy. If a reader reports an error, we verify within 48 hours and publish a correction with the updated review date.
  • No medical advice. FurCalc tools are educational. For treatment decisions, we always direct readers to their own veterinarian β€” the only person who can examine the animal.
