Cockatiel eggs hatch in 18-21 days at 99.5°F and 50% humidity (rising to 65-75% in final 3 days). Median is 19 days. Budgie 17-19, Canary 13-14, Amazon 24-28, African Grey 28-30, Macaw 26-28. Variation is normal; candling at day 7 confirms fertility.

Most parrot eggs: 99.5°F (37.5°C), humidity 40-50% until lockdown then 65-75% last 3 days. Finches and canaries: 99°F, similar humidity. Commercial incubators with forced air are more stable than still-air. Turn 3-5 times daily until lockdown.

Dark room + bright LED flashlight pressed against large end of egg. Day 3-5: faint red spot (embryo starting). Day 7: clear blood vessels radiating outward (fertile). Infertile eggs stay clear. Blood ring means embryo died — remove immediately to prevent bacterial growth.

The final 2-3 days of incubation. Stop turning the eggs (chick is positioning for hatch). Increase humidity to 65-75% (softens the shell so the chick can pip). Do NOT open the incubator after lockdown unless absolutely necessary.

Wait at least 48 hours past expected hatch date before considering intervention. Assisted hatching is a last resort by experienced breeders only — pulling a chick out prematurely causes fatal hemorrhage. If no pip after 72h past due date and egg is otherwise healthy, consult an avian vet.

Only if you match temperature and humidity exactly. Mid-incubation moves risk shock. Label eggs with lay date and keep them in the same orientation (mark the top with pencil). Don't wash eggs — the natural cuticle prevents bacterial entry.
